According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Charlotte has 255,698 African Americans residents. African Americans represent 61.4% of Charlotte's total population. The total population of Charlotte's metropolitan area in 2000 was estimated at 4.1 million. The metropolitan area's current African American population is estimated at around 1.6 million. More than 1.1 million of the Charlotte area's 1.6 million African Americans currently have and use the Internet as a major resource to identify products and services they wish to purchase.
Black Business Climate
Charlotte is perhaps the nations number one mecca for African American businesses. Accourding to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2002 estimate, Charlotte has 64,825 African American owned businesses. This means that Charlotte has far and away more African American businesses than any other city in the nation of its size.
