About Laura
Laura Ellis is a licensed Real Estate Professional for the state of Virginia with over 30 years’ experience. She comes to Richmond by way of her birthplace of Racine, Wisconsin, but considers herself a true native of the Richmond metropolitan area. Her family, Poole & Company Realty, was one of the first black owned real estate firms in the Richmond area dating from the 1960’s to 1990’s. Her grandfather was a broker/appraiser, and her father was the VA managing broker of VA repossessed properties. Laura joined the family business in 1984.While working real estate, Laura earned a BA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Art History/Museum Studies and a minor in Fine Art. She spent several years in the art world as Curator, and Interim Executive Director at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia and Auctioneer Assistant at Motley’s Auction Group working with antiques and on the real estate side at Luper’s Auction.
The range of business skills acquired in these positions- especially customer service, and contract negotiating- have greatly enhanced her real estate career and provided tremendous benefits to her clients. Her creative side is an added bonus when it comes to helping with decorating needs!
“The biggest take away I learned from my grandfather and father is “kindness” and “honesty”. I take pride in my services and I spend quality time with each client educating them on the steps to homeownership. I love my job and hope you will consider me to help you make well informed real estate decisions.”
